Does your garden and backyard look like a hurricane just passed through? With bushes knee high, plants climbing on your walls and grills, tree branches that force you to duck when walking by, and weeds over-running your lovely grass? If this describes your garden perfectly it’s time to clean up!
First, get all your tools out. This may include: gardening gloves, pruning shear, rake, broom, shovel, lawnmower, garbage bags and some kind of weeding tool. Please wear some old clothes because you’re going to get down and dirty.
Mowing the lawn first makes sense, along with edging the perimeter so it looks manicured. Then you can clip the hedges, prune the branches and cut back vines that are growing wildly. When you are through snipping everything, it is time to put that rake to work. Raking the leaves, bushes and branches will tidy the place and make what you just did obvious. Place neatly into durable large garbage bags and pack neatly for disposal.
Now that you’ve gotten all the bull work out of the way it is time to turn to the refined tasks abundant in most gardens. Prune your roses and flowers for that finished look that beautiful gardens have. We recommend this article ‘Make a success of planting roses’ for those who need help cultivating a rose garden.

There is still work to be done, of course, and such work lies in the details that bring beauty to your bakyard. Pull dead leaves from those plants that don’t automatically drop them. Remove dead branches from trees. Fertilze those areas that need it, with non toxic brands for the sensitive gardeners. You may be able to find organic insecticides to help clear those pesty bugs that put your lovely flowers and plants on their food chain.
Look around the yard and see if there’s anything left to be cleaned. Water your plants, grass, flowers and roses, if needed, and your garden should look brand new.
