
The 56th staging of the annual Denbigh Agriculture & Industrial Show opens on Friday, August 2 – 4, during the Jamaica Independence weekend, at its May Pen, Clarendon showground.
And, as is customary, Agro Grace will be positioned inside the Grace Kennedy Pavilion highlighting the role it continues to play in the development of Jamaica’s agriculture.
Agro Grace will of necessity persists in its wider focus in promoting the use of technology in agriculture but this year will not only reemphasize Greenhouse technology but also home-produced agriculture by the practice of container/backyard gardening in line with the grand effort that is on the way to secure the nation’s food supply.
“In the past two years we have been focusing on technology in agriculture with emphasis on greenhouse vegetable production, the use of drip irrigation and soluble fertilizer. This year, however, Agro Grace will continue this focus in addition to demonstrating and providing practical guide in container/backyard gardening in line with the national drive towards growing food at home”, says Agro Grace’s Marketing and Development Officer Howard Edwards.
With this year’s “Grow what you eat, Eat what you grow theme”, Minister of Agriculture, Dr Christopher Tufton had, at the launch of Denbigh 2008, stated that among the emphasis this year would be the drive to increase backyard agricultural production.
Additionally, Agro Grace will also be showcasing its line of hybrid vegetable seeds that have been tested and proven highly productive under local conditions, this is in tandem with its selection of safe chemicals that will help the drive to maximize productivity and put profit in the pockets of the farmers.
In line with the national home gardening program Agro Grace will have on sale a limited number of garden kits at the Grace Kennedy Pavilion. A cadre of highly trained field staff will be on hand to support and assist farmers with any inquiry and provide instruction to students of agriculture and visitor alike.
Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS), organisors of the annual event, is expected to receive delegations from Barbados, Bermuda, St. Vincent, St. Martin, and Texas.
