Agro Grace embraces Denbigh theme

Denbigh 2007

The annual Denbigh Agricultural & Industrial Show begins this Saturday, August 4, and as usual, will climax in a hive of agricultural and entertainment activities on Independence Day, August 6, at the Denbigh Showground in May Pen, Clarendon.

Regarded as the Caribbean premier agricultural show, the 55-years old Denbigh Show is being staged under the opportune theme, Agro-technology: Partnering with tourism, advancing national development

"This is an agricultural technological age, Senator Norman Grant declared at the launch of the 3-day national event. “The agricultural sector within the region has to become adaptable and make the necessary changes to keep abreast and to gain a competitive edge in international trade,” he warned.

Agro Grace, for many years, has been in the forefront in promoting hi-tech in agriculture and this year, without foreknowledge, is indeed supporting the JAS theme with a model greenhouse inside our Grace Kennedy pavilion.

According marketing and product development manager Olive Downer-Walsh, Agro Grace, in association with the Pest Management Association, will also be placing major emphasis on the whole issue of mosquito control in the prevention of malaria.

“In addition to that we will be highlighting safety in agriculture, the use of protective gears as we stress the urgent need for agricultural workers to protect their face, hands and feet”.

Continuing, “Safety is an important part of our communication to users of pesticides and in keeping with that, and in collaboration with 3M (Interamerica Inc), we will be staging a safety display at the Grace Pavilion”.

Agro Grace, the complete farm and garden centre, will have on display a wide variety of hybrid vegetable seeds that are suitable for both hi-tech and low-tech vegetable production.

“ The model greenhouse is embracing the adaptation of new technology by farmers and Agro Grace aims to support it in terms of inputs and technical advice where possible”, Mrs. Walsh reveals.

Agro Grace encourages visitors to its new website to attend the premier Denbigh Agriculture & Industrial show event and to drop by the Grace Pavilion for a feast of agriculture and food exhibition.

The Denbigh show features a variety of family-oriented activities, including the popular livestock judging competition and parade of livestock, parish pavilions, the crowning of the national farm queen, industrial displays, and live entertainment.
